What is birth trauma?
Birth trauma encompasses the distress experienced by mothers before, during, or after childbirth.
While it can manifest physically, its impact is often emotional and psychological. It's crucial to acknowledge and honour your birth trauma, as societal expectations may overshadow the depth of your experience.
Many mothers silently carry the weight of birth trauma, hesitating to share their stories. Your journey is unique and valid, and there may be countless reasons why you have encountered birth trauma.
Studies suggest that up to 1 in 3 women face birth trauma in some capacity, with 1 in 25 mothers exhibiting signs of PTSD at 12 weeks postpartum.
Even if this happened sometime ago, it can often feel that it is still very present. You might not have initially recognized your birth as traumatic, but it's common to realize its impact later when you have the emotional and physical capacity to process your ordeal.
Remember, you're not alone on this journey, and there is support and understanding available to help you navigate your healing path.
